The Purpose of this Blog

The history of the Christian faith is long and sometimes, difficult, to sort through.  There are parts of our past that some people just refuse to talk about or deal with, thinking that things are just too difficult for people to understand, or they just don't see the past (from the close of the New Testament canon to the Reformation) as being of much concern for the Christian of today.  They believe, foolishly I think, that anything outside of holy scripture is to place too much focus on man, rather than on God.  However, it is my belief that the early history and theology of the church DOES matter and that God is Lord of all, even if it was not included in the Bible.  From Adam and Eve to today and beyond, God is still sovereign and is still telling His story in our world and in our lives.  In this blog I hope to share some of the things that God is teaching me about His story and the place of those early Christians and their trials, tribulations, and successes and what they have to do with us.  If we are Christians we are as connected to those early church fathers as we are to the person sitting in the pew next to us in our local congregation.  This ancient faith is just as relevant for us, both now and in the future, as it was for those early church goers.  It is my prayer that we can all learn something as we look back to our fathers and mothers in the faith so that we can teach our spiritual children about Jesus Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  Amen.
